Vista-ise your XP
VISTA TUTORIAL - BY DIGITALX
Hi everyone! This article will tell you how to make your XP look like Window's latest Operating System, Vista. We will do this without stabbing your computer to death with the memory usage Vista has and without blowing all that money for incompatibility and effects that put stress on your graphics card. Most of the stuff contained within this article is free with the exception of a very important program that will control a lot of the work we will do.
I will dive right in by saying that you are must download StyleXP. As soon as you open it up you will notice a lot of different buttons along the side. These are all the things you are able to change. Now for the Vista Sidebar, you may want to try it Thoosje's Vista sidebar, its pretty good but it takes up some RAM.
If you want a good default Vista background then check out this and this. Now for your cursor, this will get rid of that annoying egg timer and pixely normal cursor, take a look at these actual Vista cursors. Now for the Vista sound scheme, these are pretty useless, they are no different from XP other than they are quieter and they have stuck in someone singing in them, here are these Vista sounds.
Here are the Windows Vista screensavers, they are brilliant but may take up more memory than your original screensaver, download these screensavers from here. Here is my favourite Vista theme with a fake search bar :), you open this visual style using StyleXP, here is the best theme. I know that it doesn't go over the taskbar like in Vista, that would can be annoying when you are trying to read something behind that vista logo, there is a program that can make it go above the taskbar but it is shockingly bad. It doesn't work so don't even google it.
Oh by the way, take a look at this pack, it changes your icons to vista and your theme to vista, but just apply that theme I suggested earlier after you have ran this pack. Now for the bootscreen. Do not be scared by changing your bootscreen. I have ruined one of my computers finding a safe and default vista boot screen. Here is the program that applies the bootscreen and here is the awesome looking bootscreen.
Also consider adding some software from Shock Utility. I reccomend getting this Flip 3D one.
Final thing, is something to add effects to your computer like shadows, download Windows FX.
I would post a screenshot of my pc but its easier just to post this: http://www.modernlifeisrubbish.co.uk/images/screenshots/windows-vista-screenshot.jpg
I won't post my computer as I am no longer interested in Vista. Now my PC looks like Windows 7 (with a few extras added in due to Microsoft keeping a lot of it a mystery). The only main difference I have seen in Windows 7 is the pie shaped context menus (when you right-click) and the fact in the system tray (bottom-right hand corner with all the icons), instead of having the two arrows pointing left to show hidden icons, they point up. I have done a lot more with my PC and I will not release a Windows 7 tutorial yet as little is known about it and I want to keep it to myself for now :)
Well thats it, I hope you have Vista-ised your Computer. I may post updates in the future, but this is all I can think of currently. One website I would reccomend that you keep an eye on is Stardock. Although a complete rip-off, they have some very good software and they will have even more good software soon.
